The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met this past Monday for a regular monthly meeting. Trusteed approved the employment of a new Vice President of Instructional Services. That new employee will be Dr. Ashley Becker of Springfield, Illinois, who is currently serving as the Senior Director of Academic Affairs for the Illinois Community College Board. KC Interim President George Evans stated, “Dr. Becker is student oriented and comes highly recommended from staff at the ICCB. I believe that she will be a great fit as the next leader of instructional services here at KC.” Trustees also approved Nic Farley of Salem to become the college’s new Dean of Career and Technical Education. In other moves, Megan Holtmann of Aviston was approved to be an Assistant Professor of Nursing and Kathy Crain of Breese to be an Informational Technical Services and Support Coordinator. The board also accepted the resignations of Christopher Shaw as the Network Support Specialist, Donna Matanane as an Accountant and Kristina Holland-Deadmond as the Adult Education and Literacy Coordinator. The board did approve a request to establish an Accounting Manager position for the college’s business office. The new position will provide improved daily management of the business office. A request to reinstate a full-time lead grounds technician position to oversee the care and maintenance of the college’s main campus was approve as well. Revisions to course fees for the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing Programs for the 2019 fiscal year was approved. This move comes after the college changed vendors for student books and technology resources in that program. While the fees for those services will increase, it will be offset by a reduction in the cost of books and technology resources. Some of those student benefits include a reduces cost of books, better orientation on technology resources, student requirement to be charged additional technology fee on a repeated course and technology resources available with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Registration is still currently underway for Summer and Fall semesters, with summer classes starting on June 4th and the fall semester starting on August 13th.
