The Mt. Vernon Police Department is investigating an afternoon bank robbery, occurring on Monday along Broadway Street.  Officers were dispatched to the Fifth 3rd Bank along the 2700 block of Broadway Street, just before 5pm on Monday, where they were told that a white male had robbed the bank and fled on foot in the southeast direction.  The suspect is still currently on the run, and is being described as a white male, wearing a black hat, camouflage coat, white tee shirt and blue jeans.  Pictures are currently available on the suspect for a nearby camera.  No one was injured during this incident, with responding agencies including the Mt. Vernon Police Department’s detectives and crime scene technician.  Anyone with any additional information on this case is asked to call the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 618-242-21-31.  The suspect in the robbery is expected to be a serial bank robber who has struck banks across multiple other states.  Video surveillance shows that the robber has robbed banks in Tennessee and in North Carolina, where he did not cover his face.
