A bill to legalize recreational marijuana in Illinois will now head to the governor’s desk, after it successfully was approved by the House on Friday.  The House voted 66 to 47 in favor of the measure.  The legislation will allow individuals 21 and older to possess, consume, and purchase cannabis from licensed retailers.  Contained is a number of social equity provisions, while at the same time giving existing medical cannabis businesses a leg up in the licensing process.  This proposal would also expunge prior possession convictions for possession of 30 grams or less of cannabis by the state attorney general, after a consideration by the Prison Review board and through a pardon.
