The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that they are going to be closing down Illinois Route 146, underneath the I-57 bridges next weeks. Starting on Wednesday morning, the closure will begin in Union County, which is expected to clast through Friday. The on and off ramps to I-57 will remain open for motorists during this closure. The closure is necessary, so that workers can place beams on the northbound structure. Eastbound Illinois 146 traffic will be directed onto I-57, where you would use exit 24 at Dongola to change directions on the interstate, then exit back onto 146. Westbound traffic will be directed to I-57 and change directions on the interstate at exit 36, at Lick Creek. IDOT wants to remind residents that you should plan on extra time in your travel and seek an alternative route if you want to avoid the construction area.
