2. A Centralia woman is arrested after barricading herself in her home after reportedly pulling out a machete on Centralia police officers. An investigation was being conducted in the 300 block of South Walnut Street for a report of a stolen dog. 51-year-old Susan McGuire was arrested for being in possession of the stolen dog. After the 1st initial interview, she attempted to flee the scene, and ended up running into her home to avoid an arrest. Officers began to pursue McGuire’s home, until she picked up a nearby machete and raised it above her head and began walking towards officers. Centralia Police brought out a taser to subdue her, but it did not work and she ran into a nearby room. She told officers that she had a firearm on her person. A perimeter was set up around the residence and South Walnut, between 3rd and 5th streets, was closed. After failed attempts to get McGuire to leave the residence, chemicals were then deployed. McGuire still refused to leave, so officers forced their way into the home and took her into custody. The stolen dog was located safe and sound and was returned to its rightful owner. Assisting in the arrest included the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System Special Response Team, Central City Police and Officers from Wamac. An arrest warrant on McGuire was brought up for Aggravated Assault, along with a search warrant for her residence. After the search, a machete, a pellet pistol and a pellet rifle were found and brought in as evidence. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where her bail is at $15,000.
