The Washington County Board met last night and they approved some speed limit changes to areas near the Prairie State Campus.  County Highway Engineer Mitch says the traffic in that area was heavy due to the construction and for safety reasons it was reduced to 45 miles per hour.  Now that construction is done and there has been a reduction in the amount of traffic, the speed limit can be brought back up to 55 miles per hour.  He says the new limits will go into affect once the signs are up.  The bridge at Beaucoup is now being worked on and could be finished by next Friday.  Also, work on County Highway 13 should be done by the end of the month and work on Stone County Road could be done mid-December.  There were some zoning changes approved last night.  One is to allow an RV to be a temporary home in Addieville, located across from the Post Office.  It will have underpinning around it.  The length of this agreement is for 30 months.  Another rezoning issue was for 1.33 acres to be moved from agriculture to residential to allow William McDougal to build a house or houses or duplex upon his land.  The other rezoning issue was for Shane Youngblood to be allowed to remove a trailer and build a home on property.  The Board readdressed an issue from earlier this year about some property that has a dilapidated home on it that needs to be torn down.  Despite numerous efforts, they have not been able to find the owner, as the property has $5,100 in back taxes due.  The Board approved to file for a judicial deed to take ownership of the property.  They will decide what to do with the property later, be that selling it as is or tearing down the home and then selling it, but the back taxes will be forgiven once they take possession of the property.  They also passed a resolution against the closing of the Murray Center in Centralia.  The Animal Control Warden, Bill White, made his report and said they currently have 13 dogs and 8 cats sheltered.  He says to date they have had 124 dogs adopted and 49 claimed by owner with 7 being put down.  He says they have approximately 650 animals go through the shelter during a year.
