The Washington County Board met Tuesday night.  County Highway Engineer, Mitch Burdick, presented 3 resolutions on road projects in the county.  One is for County Highway 21 for overlay work that will not result in road closures, but it will have lane restrictions during the day.  This will be from the Village of Oakdale, north to Route 15.  The low bid of $2,024,018.24 was Kilian Corporation out of Mascoutah.  No local money will be used though, as it is funded 80 percent with Federal funds and 20 percent with State funds.  Work should begin in late June and go for 8 to 10 days.  This was approved of by the Board.  Another project is on County Highway 23 for design and engineering of resurfacing work.  It will cost less than the approximately $1 million estimate, with up to $800,000 being funded Federally and the remaining $200,000 to be funded locally.  This was approved of by the Board.  The third resolution dealt with a bridge contract on Peach Tree Road.  The winning low bid was from Lake Contracting out of Addieville for $233,126.  The Township Bridge fund will pay for $186,500 and the County will pay $23,313, while the Irvington Road District Permanent Bridge Fund will also pay $23,313.  This was approved of by the Board.  In other news, Burdick reported road crews have completed spring crack sealing on County Highway 12, north and south of Venedy and on County Highway 24, north of Hoyleton.  Mowing has begun in the county and should be completed by the end of May.  Weed spraying is also being done.  Last month, Burdick reported that he was working with Representative Charlie Meier on getting some signage put up at 3 intersections that have had fatal accidents at them in the last 2 years.  2 of those intersections now have enhanced signage and the 3rd should get some soon.  The signs were put in by the Illinois Department of Transportation at no cost to the County.
