CENTRALIA — A weekend fire to items put out for fall cleanup in Centralia appears to have been intentionally set after the back door to a nearby home had been kicked in.

Centralia City firefighters responded to the home at 6 East Broadway around 2:45 p.m. Saturday and extinguished the flames before they spread to a nearby power pole and garage.

A Centralia police officer attempted to use an extinguisher to put out the fire but the flames flared when he did, which is an indication of an accelerant being used.

Centralia police are assisting the fire department with their investigation into the fire.
