CLINTON COUNTY, IL — A rural Carlyle man has been sentenced to a total of 44 years in prison after pleading guilty in September to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault to a victim under 13 years old.

Michael Parker was facing up to 60 years in prison but was sentenced Thursday to 22 years on each of the two counts to which he pleaded guilty to in September. He was originally charged with Class X felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under the age of 13 in exchange for two Class 2 felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 9 being dismissed. The court had previously advised Parker he would have to serve 85% of his sentence and also three years to life of parole when released from prison. The victim’s grandmother provided a written victim’s impact statement while Parker presented a statement of allocution before the sentence was handed down.

The charges reportedly stem from incidents last summer. Parker has remained in the Clinton County Jail since his January arrest with bond set at $500,000
