MOUNT VERNON — Bond has been set at $40,000 each for two Mt. Vernon residents arrested on drug-related charges.

According to Mt. Vernon police, 26-year-old Martha Harbor and 31-year-old Raymond Schneider were arrested during a traffic stop Wednesday.

The traffic stop resulted from an investigation of the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Joint Narcotics Unit. The traffic stop reportedly revealed a quantity of heroin and Fentanyl.

Harbor was arrested for alleged delivery of heroin within 500 feet of a school – Casey Middle School – and driving while license suspended.

Schneider was arrested for alleged delivery of Fentanyl within 500 feet of a school – also Casey Middle School.

Ultimately, they were each charged in Jefferson County Court Thursday with Class 1 felony possession of narcotics within 500 feet of a school and were scheduled for January 19 preliminary hearings and first appearances with court-appointed counsel in each case.

Additionally, both Harbor and Schneider were on parole at the time of their arrests Wednesday and the Illinois Department of Corrections has issued parole violation warrants for both.

Schneider was on parole for drug and weapons convictions while Harbor was on parole for drug and burglary convictions.
