JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 39-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to delivery of meth near a school or park.

Jerrett Spells was one of at least nine people arrested in October following lengthy investigations by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Mt. Vernon Police Department’s narcotics unit.

Spells was arrested on a Jefferson County warrant charging him with Delivery of a Controlled Substance 1-15 Grams in a Park and a second count for Delivery of a Controlled Substance 1-15 Grams.

He pleaded guilty Tuesday to an amended charge of Class X felony delivery of a controlled substance in exchange for the second charge being dismissed.

Spells was sentenced in 2016 to 14 years in prison after being convicted in Jefferson County of delivery of cocaine and being a felon in possession of a weapon. He was released to parole on those charges in 2021 and on Tuesday was ordered to serve the remaining period on those charges concurrently with the new 10 year sentence.
