BENTON – A Benton man is in the Franklin County Jail on drug-related charges following a traffic stop Wednesday night on Illinois 14 near Rend City Road.
Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon says 44-year-old Jason R. Hobbie is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession with the Intent to Deliver Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Contraband within a Penal Institution and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Deputies stopped Hobbie around 10:40 p.m. A sheriff’s K9 conducted a free air sniff outside of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert.
Hobbie’s vehicle was searched. Found were five grams of suspected meth, 92 suspected fentanyl capsules, multiple small clear plastic bags and $1,976 in cash.
After arriving at the jail, suspected fentanyl capsules and drug paraphernalia were found hidden on Hobbie’s person during booking.
