The Washington County Board met Tuesday night and there was discussion about the newly renovated Washington County Courthouse. They discussed the need for landscaping to be done, as the erosion problem reported on at the last meeting has not gotten any better. The Board had set aside $8,000 for it in the renovation, but did not use it, so that money was still available to use. They approved of spending $11,809 with Naturally Green for landscaping, sodding and materials on the grounds, which also might include some bushes being put in, all to help eliminate the erosion. In a related move, they will ask the Girl Scouts exactly what they want to do about planting trees, as another tree in the southwest area had to be taken down. A large limb needed to be removed, and it was discovered that the inside had split and had squirrels inside, so it was taken out. There as a change order involving turning a door around, building a podium for the Board Room, work on the stairwell wood, staining wood and repairing paneling for a cost of $6,267.48, which was approved of by the Board. There will be a dedication ceremony on Sunday, June 26th at 2 PM at the newly renovated Courthouse and the public is welcome to attend. There was a problem earlier this week with the sewer lines coming out of the Courthouse on the north end of the building, which caused the restrooms to be closed for a few days. The issue was being fixed yesterday and expected to be completed by the end of the day. This will be something that will be addressed with the contractor. It was reported that the County did not use all of the money set aside for worker’s compensation, so their insurance gave them a reimbursement of $67,898, as claims were less than estimated. Finally, the Board approved of Donald Etling being re-appointed to the Tilden Fire District Board for another 3 years.
