Storms and tornadoes moved through Illinois last weekend and while there were 6 deaths, which is 6 too many, it could have been much worse. Rick Greten, Emergency Management Agency Coordinator for Washington County says these storms can hit at any time of the year, so residents should be prepared. He says the sirens go off only for tornado warnings in Washington County, and that is when you need to get to shelter. There are also preparations to make beforehand, such as putting together a kit, says Greten, including items that are necessary for survival, not recreation. He also recommends having medicine it the kit, but when you get the prescription refilled, switch it out so it doesn’t go bad. Greten says to be sure to include some sort of non-perishable food as well. You should also make a kit for your car too. For more information, contact Rick Greten at 327-4800, extension 340.
