SANDOVAL — The community of Sandoval is mourning today after a tragic car crash Sunday on new U.S. 50 near claimed the lives of two young men while another was airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital with serious injuries.

U.S. 50 was closed for several hours from Breese to Stolletown Road while Breese Fire/EMS, Clinton County EMA, Carlyle, Beckemeyer, and Germantown emergency personnel responded to the scene.

The crash occurred at U.S. 50 at Shoal Creek Bridge during a heavy downpour around 5 p.m. with emergency responders reporting heavy extrication needed.

The two juvenile males who were killed in the crash were reportedly brothers. One brother was still a student while the older brother graduated from Sandoval High School last year.

The juvenile male who was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital had graduated from Sandoval High School Friday.

School counselors will be available at both the grade school and the junior/senior high school to help students, faculty and staff through the devastating loss of these young lives.
