Illinois Computer-Generated Phone Call Scams Are Up

An Illinois consumer-advocacy group is now offering new tips for reducing pesky computer-generated phone calls.  Citizens Utility Board released their Guide to fighting robocalls on Monday, with the guide available for free through the organization’s website.  CUB says that technology is allowing scam artists to make thousands of calls a minute, with calls reaching an alarming level.  The telecom services firm YouMail estimates that there was a record of 47.8-billion automated calls in 2018, with most of those being scam calls or telemarketers.  Executive Director David Kolata, says that the agency hears complaints from Illinois consumers about the nuisance calls, with the CUB getting those same complaints in the past few months.  Hey also says that Illinois consumers can receive some valuable information to reducing the number of calls you get from computer-generated phone calls from the website.
