The Mt. Vernon City Council met on Monday, where they approved the lowest bids for both the Davison Avenue and Potomac Road patching projects, along with street repair materials for in-house city street repairs.  They also approved the lowest bid, submitted by Rollie Excavating, based out of Woodlawn, for the Davidson and Potomac patching projects, for a price just under $103,000.  For the street repair materials, the city accepted a combination of bids from Jax Asphalt and Marathon Petroleum, just shy of $275,000.  The city at their meeting approved their year-end budget adjustments, required by state law, and a resolution to temporarily close Illinois Route 15, from Marlow Road to the junction of the old Route 15 and current Route 15 road, for the Salute to Freedom for their July 4th fireworks.  The next scheduled city council meeting was set for July 1st, at 7pm, inside the Rolland Lewis Community Building at Veteran’s Park in Mt. Vernon.
