Over 1,000 cases of Pictsweet Farms’ 8-ounch Steam’ables Asparagus Spears are being recalled, due to the possibility of a fatal listeria contamination. The Pictsweet Company announced the recall of 1,872 cases of the product, after a report form the US FDA. The recalled products were sold in 34 states, and carry UPC codes 0 70560 97799 9, with the production code beginning with the digits 2138XD and a best by date of August 1st, 2020. No illnesses have been reported yet at this time. The Pictsweet Company initiated the recall, after a manufacturer notified that its product was suspected of containing Listeria monocytogenes, and was inadvertently shipped to Pictsweet. Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium, that can sometimes cause fatal infections in young children, or frail or elderly people who have weakened immune systems. Healthy people can suffer short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea. Consumers who have any questions can call Pictsweet Farms at 1-800-527-09-86 from 9 to 5pm weekdays. They can also return their product for a full refund.
