The federal court hearing in the case of the Murray Parents Association and other plaintiffs against the State of Illinois has now been tentatively set for January 6, 2014.  Initially scheduled for last week, the hearing had been postponed until November, but has now been postponed even further.  This delay is good news for Save Murray Center supporters and bad news for the State of Illinois that had planned on a November 30th closure date of the facility.  But, that doesn’t mean the fight to save the Centralia facility is over.  Tomorrow a hearing of the Illinois Health facilities and Services Review Board is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM in Centralia City Hall.  Both supporters of keeping the center open and those in favor of closure will be speaking at the hearing.  The Board will have one final say-so on the closure matter that ultimately the decision will sit with Governor Pat Quinn.  However, the federal court judge could extend the temporary injunction that is currently in place, based upon what he believes is in the best interest of the center’s residents.  Supporters of keeping open the Warren G. Murray Developmental Center in Centralia are urging fellow supporters to submit letters to the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, urging them to oppose the facility’s closure.  The board will not accept emailed or faxed letters.  Letters should be sent through the U.S Postal Service to Mike Constantino, Supervisor, Project Review Section, Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, 525 West Jefferson Street, 2nd Floor, Springfield, Illinois 62761.  That’s up on our v1047 facebook page right now.  Make sure you note that you are opposed to Project 13-058 and are opposed to the closing of the Murray Center.
