A 45-year-old Mount Vernon man is finally behind bars in the Jefferson County Jail. Ronnie W. Broadway was wanted on a violation of a stipulation as a sex offender as he was not at his registered residence in mid-September, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. They now report this was due to him leaving the state after allegedly battering his disabled mother. This incident occurred in mid-August and he was charged with Aggravated Battery of a Disabled Person with bond set at $15,000. A warrant had been issued after he failed to register a new address, as he was no longer living with his mother after the incident. He was finally apprehended in Florida and was back in Jefferson County yesterday with an additional charge of Violate Sex Offender Registration with bond set at $75,000. In 1992 Broadway was convicted in Jefferson County of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse of a family member, a charge that had been reduced. Two class x charges of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault of a Victim Under the Age of 13 were dismissed in that case. He was initially sentenced to probation, but in 1995 was convicted of violating that probation and was ultimately sentenced to 9 years in prison. In 2000, Broadway was a free man, but was arrested and convicted in Jefferson County of felony Burglary, this time receiving a 7-year prison sentence. That was followed in 2004 in Marion County with his first Sex Offender Registry Violation, for which he was sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison.
