The new Kaskaskia College Extension Center took a step closer to reality on Friday. The school held an event on the future sight north of Nashville on Highway 127 next to Alco. There were many speakers and the architect plans were on display. The current building has been leased by KC since they moved to Nashville 10 years ago. It is only 3,406 square feet and the student need has outgrown it, so the plan is for a 12,000 square foot facility with plenty of classroom space, computer labs, a science lab and a medical section. It will even have a lobby area for students to socialize. The project has a pricetag of $3,055,000, but $1,770,000 has already been funded. Of the remaining $1,285,000, there was another $200,750 was donated at the event Friday. Nashville Mayor Raymond Kolweier talks about what a great thing this will be for the students and the community. The goal is to raise the money so the bidding can go out in May next year with a completion date approximately 1 year later.
