The 1.2-million-member Rotary International honored 80-year old Robert W. Holloway, of Sparta with its Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service at an event on Saturday.  Holloway, owner of Holloway Farms in Sparta, was one of only 50 Rotarians so honored world-wide.  He was honored for his humanitarian work in Malawi, an impoverished Southeast African nation.  In 20 years, Holloway has made 19 trips to Malawi at his own expense and by provided more than 1,000 clean-water wells.  Holloway, the immediate past president of the Sparta Rotary Club, is also a multi-year Paul Harris Fellow and a sustaining member within Rotary, indicating his continuing support for the charitable projects of The Rotary Foundation.  He previously had been awarded Rotary’s “Service Above Self” Award.  On November 1, he will lead a delegation of Rotarians back to Malawi for further humanitarian service.  Rotary International is a global organization of business, professional and civic leaders dedicated to improving humanity.  Its District 6510 comprises 48 clubs and some 1,685 individuals in Illinois’ 28 southern-most counties.
