State Representative Charlie Meier, the Republican out of Okawville, who has been fighting for the Warren G. Murray Developmental Center to remain open, had these comments about the delayed closing date.  “This is a wonderful step in the right direction, but I don’t want to celebrate too soon.  We already knew that with the impending federal court hearings that there was no way the Department of Human Services would be allowed to close Murray Center by November 30th.  I’m thrilled that the efforts of the Friends of Murray Center, Murray Parents Association, and the entire region have bought the residents of Murray a little more time to live in peace.  But we can’t let off the pedal and relax.  Now is the time for us to increase our efforts and make the big push over the finish line.  We’re closer to saving Murray Center than anyone thought possible.  We’ve gotten this far only because we’ve all worked together, given so much, and constantly prayed for the very special people this closure would impact.  I implore everyone to get involved or continue to stay involved in this fight.  It’s not over yet.”
