The Washington County Board met last night and they first heard from County Highway Engineer Mitch Burdick about completed projects on the Beaucoup Bridge and County Highway 12 road widening. They will begin soft work on the Stone Church Road Bridge and County Highway 13 hot mix overlay projects with the bulk of the work being in the Spring with the nicer weather. All mowing on the eastside of the county is done and they hope to have the westside done by Thanksgiving. The County Highway 12 speed limit signs are up. 2 part-time workers will be extended full-time positions after joining the crews this Summer. They are meeting with all the townships on their budgets on Motor Fuel Tax. Burdick said they have met with 7 of 16 townships. They will also ask for bids for a replacement pick-up truck with acceptance of bids at the December meeting. The County State’s Attorney Heath Hooks requested the yearly renewal with the Appellate Prosecutor to represent the county with appeals in the Appellate Court for the $7,000. There are going to be 3 cases of appeals this coming year. The County Clerk, Tom Ganz, will be looking at a new land record system, as the current system was purchased in 2001 for $90,000 and the updates will be discontinued. He and his staff will visit some other counties to see how they use a particular system. This system could cost approximately $35,000 for an advanced system. More on this project will be known in the coming months. Also, there were 2 requests to change the polling places. In Hoyleton #1, the Village Hall is small and everyone has agreed it would be better to move voting to the Community Center, which is bigger and more accessible. Also, in Lively Grove Township, the construction of the energy plant required a move to Saint Anthony’s Church. Now that construction is complete at the plant and at their township building, the township wants to move it there. The issue is that the county will need to re-issue voter I.D. cards to all those registered in those two areas. The Board approved these moves.
