The weather just after 12 noon on Sunday was scary for many in the Washington County and surrounding areas with tornado warnings of impending destruction and death. A Washington County Deputy confirmed a touchdown of a tornado just west of Hoyleton and it is believed to have taken the lives of 2 individuals from the town west of that. New Minden was hit with several homes and a church severely damaged. The 2 individuals were an elderly brother and sister from the same residence just south of New Minden. There were semi tractor trucks that were overturned or twisted on Interstate 64 between Nashville and Okawville, which caused the eastbound lane to be closed for some time. There were many cars in accidents, as well as trees down. In Centralia, the Flying M Ranch and surrounding area was hit hard. Also, Tri-County Electric Cooperative, which services much of the areas hit early this afternoon, reports that the downed poles and lines in the New Minden and Hoyleton areas have caused power outages that may last over a day. Outside crews have been brought in to help with repairs. 156 of 175 customers are out of power in Hoyleton, while 206 out of 233 are out in Okawville, 54 out of 984 in Centralia, 26 out of 109 in Richview and 80 out of 626 in Nashville, but mostly that is in the New Minden area.
