The Irvington School Board of Education met Monday night and Superintendent Dave Schulte said they held their parent – teacher conferences and there was a 91 percent turnout. They approved a resolution in support of Kaskaskia College’s expansion of a new building in Nashville for their extension. There will be a blood drive on Thursday, December 5th from 3 to 7 PM. The school has begun a Student Council this year and Schulte says these students have been assisting the school in many activities and will expand to community volunteerism in the spring. He also said they addressed the 2013 Tax Levy, which is payable in 2014. It will be at 4.99 percent a $15,925 anticipated increase. This will again be addressed at the next meeting. He said they are looking at a new math curriculum that will be better aligned with the Common Core. The teachers are looking at samples from MacGraw Hill’s My Math plan. Schulte says the school is celebrating American Education Week with activities all week, such as Grandparent’s Day yesterday and Dress for Career today, among other activities.
