The Saint Louis Cardinals announced that Manager Mike Matheny has agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2017 season.  Also, Cardinals’ pitcher Chris Carpenter announced his retirement as an active player, yesterday, concluding a 15-year Major League career that included a Cy Young award in 2005.
