The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met Monday night for the regular monthly meeting.  The Board approved the establishment of two new programs, and the first reading of a new initiative aimed at providing students with additional guidance and support as they achieve their educational goals.  KC’s new Web Design and Masters System Degree provides students with the skills to design, implement, support and manage web applications and web servers, work with virtual technology and design mobile applications allowing graduates to work in fields such as web development and management to mobile design application and cloud-based management.  The College’s new Restaurant and Culinary Operations Degree will prepare students for careers in food service management.  This is an expansion of the current Culinary Arts program.  The program will cover such areas as food preparation, cost control, ethical decision making and general business.  Job projections in both program areas are strong, which is why the college has moved quickly to add both degree opportunities to its curriculum schedule.  In other action the Board approved lab fees for the 2014-15 academic year, and approved the College entering into a private preferred lender program with Sallie Mae and Wells Fargo beginning in January of 2014.  The agreement expands financial opportunities available for students needing assistance in funding their education.
