There will be postal service of sorts in Hoyleton beginning this afternoon. There is a ribbon cutting and open house at 1 PM today at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Hoyleton as they welcome in the United States Postal Service to the business. Spokesperson Valerie Welsch of the USPS Gateway District explains that this is a Village Post Office and what that means. It is an alternative retail location for postal services and products. It is usually open longer hours and offers stamp purchasing and priority mail, among other services, making it more convenient for the resident. She explains that usually will not include P.O. boxes or mail delivery, but mail can be dropped off there. Welsch says the post office would be open the same hours as the business it is in, which in Hoyleton is from 8:30 AM to 4 PM on Mondays through Fridays and 8:30 AM to noon on Saturdays, as it is manned by a bank employee. While this is the 4th VPO opening, there will be more to come in the near future. If any business would like to have a Village Post Office, contact the USPS.
