The Saint Louis Cardinals have signed free-agent infielder Mark Ellis to a one-year contract for the upcoming 2014 season. He has a lifetime .265 batting mark with 105 home runs and 538 R.B.I.s in 1,362 games. He will likely take over 2nd base and Matt Carpenter will take over 3rd base with the departure of David Freese.
