The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was busy in the past week, mostly assisting motorists.  Deputies responded to a few calls to the Hoyleton Youth & Children’s Home last week, twice to assist staff with a client and then in reference to a battery.  There were 2 calls in reference to harassment in Oakdale last Tuesday.  They assisted motorists, but also responded to 3 accidents.  One of those accidents was the one on Friday afternoon near the state lake involving the fatality.  Another one was while assisting the fire departments in New Minden on Thursday.  While Illinois Route 127 was slowed south of New Minden as emergency vehicles were on the road battling a home fire, there was a 4-vehicle accident at 5:27.  According to the report, a vehicle driven by 86-year old Marvin W. Miessner of Hoyleton was traveling north on Route 127, when he failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of a car driven by 61-year old Sharon K. Keppner of Springfield, Illinois, as she was stopped in traffic.  This caused her car to strike the rear of a vehicle driven by Keith A. Woods of Centralia, which rear-ended a pick-up truck driven by 52-year old Bradley J. Liszewski of Hoyleton.  Everyone refused treatment of injuries, but only Liszewski’s truck was drivable.  According to the report, no citations were issued.
