Yesterday, members of the Mount Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office began an effort of locating and arresting several persons wanted on drug related warrants throughout Mount Vernon and Jefferson County.  The warrants were issued by the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office and were signed by the Honorable Judge Jo Beth Weber, after approximately eight months of on-going investigations by the MVPD – JCSO Narcotics Division.  A total of 29 persons were being sought on drug related charges.  As of 4 PM yesterday, fifteen of the persons wanted on these warrants were in custody.  This makes a total of six drug related warrant sweeps conducted by the MVPD – JCSO Narcotics Division during the year 2013.  A total of approximately 140 people have been charged with drug related crimes in the Mount Vernon and Jefferson County area during this time.  Additional warrants will be issued and served in the near future.
