The West Washington County Unit District #10 Board of Education met on Thursday night and Superintendent Scott Furhop says they held a public hearing on the tax levy before the regular meeting. They are asking for 6.15 percent increase, but when actually figured out with the possible increase in property tax, the actual dollar amount could be less than last year for the residents. This was approved. Furhop told the Board about how well the Illinois State Board of Education Special Education Audit went, as there were some discrepancies one week a couple of years ago during a State visit that showed their percentage of students not having some sort of special education need was only 39 percent, when the state wants that to be over 50 percent. Furhop says that number has been over 50 percent, except for that one week two years ago and everything is where it should be. The first day of school is January 6th.
