The Washington County Sheriff’s deputies seemed to be living on Interstate 64 over the weekend and Monday with accidents or stranded motorists. According to the weekly report, they assisted motorists on 18 calls Sunday and Monday, just on Interstate 64. Five of these calls were assisting the Illinois State Police. Deputies also answered another 9 calls to assist a motorist on other roads, mostly on Illinois Route 15 and Illinois Route 153. During some of these calls, they wound up taking the motorists involved to a hotel for lodging. Which, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Joey Watson, is the correct procedure so the law enforcement agent can get back out to help others. The vehicles remained on the roadways until the weather cleared and tow trucks were allowed out. On Saturday, they responded to a domestic battery in Richview, as well as one in Irvington. There was a vehicle fire they assisted on I-64 as well. There were other incidents they responded to, including a theft at a rural Marissa residence. They are working with the Sparta Police Department on this case. A Nashville resident was involved in a single vehicle accident on Thursday, but was uninjured. According to the report, 21-year old Quentin Schuetz was traveling west on Mockingbird Road, near the intersection of North Grand Road, when he slid through the stop sign due to poor road conditions from the previous snowfall. His vehicle went down the embankment on the west side of North Grand Road. Another accident later in the day involved 22-year old Dakota R. Knudsen of Wellsville, Kansas, who lost control of a vehicle on I-64 due to the slick road and went down an embankment. Again, no one was injured.
