The federal judge presiding over the drug and weapons case against a former Illinois judge says he’s unhappy with the 18-month sentence recommended by prosecutors.  Michael Cook pleaded guilty in November to heroin and gun charges in a deal with prosecutors.  Cook admitted being a drug addict but insisted he was sober while pleading guilty before U.S. District Judge Joe Billy McDade.  Cook’s sentencing, originally set for January 17^th, has been delayed until February 26^th.  The Belleville News-Democrat reports McDade said Cook’s status as a judge, the duration of his criminal conduct and the loss of public confidence in the judicial system were reasons to depart from the recommended sentence.  McDade on Wednesday ordered the U.S. Probation Office to investigate, prepare and distribute a supplemental presentence report.
