The Nashville High School Concert Band will be performing an invitation only concert at the end of month in Peoria and there will be a couple of chances to see them perform before that and if you can’t get to Peoria, you might want to catch one of these performances.  NCHS Music Director Steve Browne explains the uniqueness and what an honor it is to be selected to perform at the Illinois Music Educators Association Conference on January 25thHe says they sent in an audition tape and went up against all the other hundred schools of all classes competing.  NCHS was selected to perform on their first try and this is like a sports team going to state.  There are 6 bands that make it each year, some junior high and some high school.  They will perform 4 songs, which they began working on, while preparing for the Christmas Concert in December.  Browne talked about the pieces.  One will be Chimes of Liberty, a march song last performed in Disney 4 years ago, Aquarium is a 3-movement piece, Chant & Julibo is a standard, while Ghost Dances is a song written in 2099 and is one of those extravagant songs the band has been performing each year.  The concert will be at the Peoria Civic Center on Saturday, January 25th at approximately 9:45 AM.  The preview concerts will be on Tuesday, January 14 at 7 PM at the high school in the Assembly Hall, then again on Thursday, January 23rd at McKendree University in the Hett at 7 PM.  People are welcome to attend, but the McKendree event will be practice on a big stage, but they will run through the 4 selections.  Then, they leave the following afternoon for Peoria.
