Kaskaskia College hosted the 2014 Illinois Dairy Summit in its Lifelong Learning Center last Thursday.  The theme for this year’s summit was “Focusing on Profitability” and featured seminars from Jim Fraley of the Illinois Milk Producers Association, Mike Hutjens, Professor Emeritus of Animal Science from the University of Illinois, Phil Cardosa, Assistant Professor of Dairy Research and Extension from the University of Illinois, Dave Fischer, Dairy Summit Coordinator, and Clint Harre, Dairy farmer and KC Alum.  Some of the topics discussed included Profit Margins in 2014, Fine Tuning Calf Feeding Programs, RMA Talk on Farm Bill and Dairy Program, Your Dairy Check Off at Work, Transitioning with Efficiency, and a panel discussion on “Finding the Next 10 lbs of Milk.”  A number of vendors and information booths were also set up at the summit, showcasing new innovations and information interesting to the over 100 local dairy farmers in attendance.  The 2014 Illinois Dairy summit was sponsored by the Illinois Milk Producers Association and the University of Illinois.
