The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released their weekly report and they responded to 16 calls. This included assisting motorists, removing debris from the interstate, reports of suspicious activities, a residential burglary alarm, a well-being check and theft. Two people were arrested on Washington County warrants and that included Patricia T. Koepke and 19-year old Steven Hood of Tilden. Also, two Washington County residents called the Sheriff’s Office about scam telephone calls. They one report came in from a rural Hoyleton resident about several calls from a male with a Middle Eastern accent, advising the resident that they had received a prize, but had to cover the processing fees up front, before receiving the prize. The voice on the phone instructed the resident to purchase a Green Dot Money Pack prepaid card and then provide the caller with the information to access the card with money on it. The resident did as instructed, but never received the prize. Sheriff Charlie Parker warns residents to be wary of these types of callers, especially with this being the second report of scammers telling residents to purchase the Green Dot Money Card. The Sheriff’s Office received another call of a fraudulent nature. The rural Coulterville resident reported that she received a call, from what sounded like a female voice, in reference to interest rates. She called as she had a suspicion that this was a telephone scam.
