The Illinois Department of Employment Security has released the results of the December unemployment rates and there was little movement for the most part. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the state is at 8.6 percent down from 8.7 in November. The nation’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is at 6.7, down from 7.0 percent. Counties in southern Illinois experienced slight increases if any, but still have some of the highest rates in the state. The seasonally unadjusted numbers for Washington County are at 6.6 percent, up slightly from 6.5 percent in November. It is the 4th lowest unemployment rate in the state. Jefferson County remained at 9.1 percent from November. Clinton went up slightly from 6.9 percent to 7.1 and it is the 5th lowest rate. Perry County had one of the largest increases, up from 11.5 in November to 12.0 for last month and now has the 3rd highest unemployment percentage in the state. Marion County went up slightly from 11.1 to 11.2and has the 7th worst rate in the state for the month of December. Randolph County is at 8.8 percent last month, which is up from 8.5 in November, while Saint Clair County stayed at 9.3 percent unemployment for last month.
