With the approach of a winter storm forecast to arrive in the afternoon of today, the Illinois State Police out of District 13 would like to remind motorists venturing out to exercise caution and not to let their guard down.  Motorists should be alert for changing roadway conditions.  Slow down and increase following distances.  The ISP also wants to remind motorists to pay special attention to IDOT Snow Removal Operations and other emergency services personnel while traveling.  Motorists traveling home from work and school are reminded to travel prepared.  Make sure your vehicle is ready by ensuring you have over a half tank of fuel, are carrying extra warm clothing and/ or blankets, water, high energy, non-perishable foods, a cell phone with charger, a flashlight and extra batteries, and a first aid kit.  If your vehicle becomes disabled, stay with your vehicle.  Motorists can check for updated road conditions at www.gettingaroundillinois.com.
