Nashville High School competed in the Regional Finals of the WYSE Academic Challenge at Kaskaskia College yesterday, as it was postponed from last week due to the bad weather.  Advisor Jean Orr told WNSV that they had a good day, as the varsity team placed 1st ahead of Wesclin and Mater Dei.  Nashville and Wesclin will advance to sectionals at McKendree on Monday, March 10th. 4 Nashville students medaled and that included John Schroeder, who placed 1st in Biology and 1st in English, Alex Orr, who placed 1st in Math and 1st in Chemistry, James Waugh III, who placed 3rd in Engineering Graphics and Megan Hall, who placed 2nd in English.  The Okawville High School competed in the Regional Finals of the WYSE Academic Challenge at Kaskaskia College yesterday.  They also won 1st place in the Division 300 class.  Tessa Winkel placed 1st and Tyler Riechmann placed 2nd in Chemistry, Allison Koch and Nick Weber tied for 2nd in Engineering Graphics, while Alexis Kampwerth was 3rd in both Physics and Math and Rachel Mueller was 3rd in English.  This is a competitive series of tests created and administered by Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering and offered to high school students in Illinois and Missouri and are designed to present a challenge to the brightest students.  Test material is drawn from senior high school and freshman level college curricula. Subjects include biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics and physics.  Students compete as individuals and as part of a team and they have 40 minutes to complete multiple-choice tests that range in length from 30 questions in computer science to 100 questions in English.  The Nashville Varsity team also consists of Joe Blumenstock, Aaron and Alana Czajkowski, Mark Dalman, Madison Frerker, Garrett Guest, Natalie Johnson, Blake Kasten, Shawn Rennegarbe and Mackenzie Wells.
