The Oakdale Grade School Board of Education met last night and they discussed much about safety and technology. Superintendent Ryan Wamser says they now have wi-fi throughout the building and will be purchasing 8 ipads and 10 small laptops for the classrooms to use. They also received and accepted a $10,000 maintenance grant, which they will match and the funds will go towards improved lighting inside and outside that is also energy efficient. The funds will also go towards paving of the parking lot and playground blacktop. They then approved the application for a $5,000 safety – security grant that will be used to install a buzzer system and camera system, if they receive the grant. The Board of Education will have a special meeting on February 19th to go over the negotiation of teachers’ contracts, which expire later this summer. Wamser says the goal is to get through this sooner than later and hopefully bring it to a vote at the March 10th Board meeting. Thursday is going to be a fun day at the school with a Mad Science Assembly featuring fun science events and displays, the Jump Rope/Hoops for Hearts event and Valentine’s Day parties. Then the students are off Friday the Tri-County Institute and Monday for Presidents’ Day.
