The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to several accidents, especially at the beginning of last week due to the bad weather. Last Tuesday, there was one on Interstate 64 near mile marker 44 in the westbound lane, as a vehicle with 2 people from Colorado Springs, Colorado hit an icy spot on the road, loss control and struck a guardrail in the median. There was no mention of any injuries. They also responded to several vehicles stuck and blocking other vehicles on the I-64 on ramp at U.S Highway 51. On Wednesday, they responded to an accident on Interstate 64 at mile marker 61 as 63-year old Douglas Brown of Lake City, Florida lost control of his vehicle on the ice and struck the bridge barrier. He was not injured. Later there was another vehicle that went off the road at mile marker 44. There were no injuries reported. On Thursday, they responded to an accident on County Highway 25 near Howard School Road, and as a result 23-year old Zachary Rybicki of Ashley was arrested for DUI and cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Later, a vehicle driven by 27-year old Tomas Pacheco of Sparta ran off the road and struck a mailbox on Washington County Road near Marissa Road. On Saturday, there was an accident at Mockingbird Road and North Grand involving Ashley Willis, who was cited for Operating an Uninsured Vehicle. There were no injuries. Then, on Sunday at 6:24 PM on Route 127 near Bluebird Road in New Minden, just north of Route 177, there was an accident involving an injury. According to the report, it occurred as an SUV driven by 39-year old Catherine McQuaid of New Minden was traveling north on Route 127, when she slid on the ice and into a ditch. A passenger, 63-year old Mary McQuaid, also of New Minden, was injured and taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital. Catherine and another passenger were not injured. There was no mention of any citations issued. Yesterday, there was an accident on County Highway 12, north of Venedy, involving 20-year old David Cumberland of Tilden. He sustained minor injuries.
