The Nashville Chamber of Commerce held their monthly membership meeting yesterday and there were 3 individuals recognized, one being Volunteer of the Year.  Executive Director Kerri Huge will be leaving on Friday to go back to work in the travel industry after working at the Chamber for nearly 4 years.  She had previously been in the travel business for 28 years, before taking the job at the Chamber.  She was thanked for her work in making the Chamber what it is now.  Then, her successor was presented.  Davanna Behr is the new Executive Director for the Chamber, as she was just hired.  She will train with Huge to find out what her new duties truly entail.  She gave about what she wants to do with the Chamber at this time and that includes making sure everything is done correctly and continue on with the good work that it has been doing, especially as it is known for helping people, as it did for her family when they moved here.

Finally, four individuals were nominated for Volunteer of the Year and Huge read each letter written on behalf of the nominees.  Those nominated include Jordan Dalaviras, Gary Goforth, J.W. Metcalf and Will Summers.  The ballots were then handed out and the members voted.  Huge said it was a close vote, but the 2014 Volunteer of the Year is Doctor Gary Goforth, especially for all of the years he has helped with the sports teams at the schools and his work with the Lions Club.  He will be honored and roasted at the Banquet on Monday, March 10th at the American Legion Hall in Nashville.  Guest speaker Tom Speedie talked about some new laws that went into effect January 1, 2014, including the hands free phone and medicinal marijuana laws, plus some other less known laws.  The Chicken & Beer Dance is this Saturday and tickets are still available from any Chamber Board Member and the office.  Call 327-3700 for more information.  The event is at the Nashville American Legion Hall with doors opening at 7 PM.  Bourbon Trail will provide the music and they begin at 8 with all you can eat chicken and beer or soda to follow.  Everyone is welcome to bring whatever else food they would like.  If any store receives Nashville Dollars this week, they can bring it to the Office, but after that they should take them to J & R Appliance to turn into Treasurer Darlene Schomaker for the time being, until Behr gets acclimated to the new job.  The next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 11th at Little Nashville.  There is a special time for this meeting at 7 AM to give people a chance at having the meeting first thing in the morning and enjoying breakfast.
