The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic battery a week ago in Ashley.  According to the report, 36-year old Ryan Klein of Ashley, allegedly struck Maryellen Klein, of the same address, multiple times.  He was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Battery with bond set at $10,000 and no contact with the victim.  He was bailed out with $1,000 on Friday.  He has a prior conviction for Domestic Battery.  He also has two Franklin County warrants outstanding.  Deputies also took 31-year old Tory Matthews of Swansea into custody for a Washington County warrant on failure to appear. 

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 14 calls, 5 accidents and assisted 4 motorists in the past week.  Calls ranged from damaged mailboxes, to a battery at the Hoyleton Youth Ministries Home, to assisting the Okawville Police on a domestic disturbance and a medical emergency, to hunters shooting in an area of Maple and Post Oak Road in Hoyleton, to a dead animal in the road, as well as an abandoned vehicle.  There were 4 accidents on Friday.  One was one near New Minden, where a vehicle slid off the road, but it was towed by the time the deputy was able to respond.  Later, there was one on Interstate 64 at mile marker 51, as a pick-up truck, driven by Latisha Bates from Hermitage, Tennessee, pulling a U-Haul trailer, lost control on the ice and exited the road, while jack-knifing.  No injuries were reported.  Later, there was a vehicle that went off the road due to the ice.  Gregory Winchester of Nashville was on Hen House Road at 5th Street, when he lost control on the ice and the vehicle went off the roadway and overturned.  No injuries were reported.  The 4th of the day was on Marissa Road near Salem Cemetery Road, as Timothy Reese of Sparta lost control of the vehicle due to ice on the road.  It went off the road, struck a ditch and overturned.  There was no mention of any injuries.  On Saturday, there was a call to assist the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for an overturned vehicle east of DuBois.
