The Nashville Community Consolidated School District #49 Board of Education met last night and they approved Liz Pender and Marilyn Pinksterhaus as maternity leave teachers.  They also approved Angela Denato as a part-time receptionist, but it may only be for 1 or 2 days per week.  Ruth Fischer is retiring as the Technology Aide and the Board approved this.  Dave Fischer is resigning from the 7th grade girls’ basketball coach and the Board approved this.  Superintendent Mike Brink suggested amending the school calendar after talking to Nashville High School Superintendent Wendy Davis, as both schools share the same buses.  They discussed taking March 3rd off, as well as tacking days on at the end of the year, but decided to alter Spring Break.  They will go to school the first 2 days of the scheduled Spring Break, being Wednesday and Thursday, April 16th an 17th.  The school will issue letters to parents that if they had already had vacation trips planned, they will be excused and it will detail what the parents will have to do.  This schedule change was approved by the Board.  Testing will be different next year, and some 3rd, 5th and 7th graders will experience that difference this year.  The PARCC Field Test will be the norm next year and these randomly selected students will take the digital tests in math and – or English Language Arts.  Because of this, the school obtained a waiver for these students to be exempt from the ISAT in the subject they already tested in.  Brink says it will be a good experience for the students and the teachers to find out what is coming.  Principal Chuck Fairbanks said ISAT will begin next Tuesday.  The end of the quarter has been pushed back to March 14th.  Some activities and events this month include the Musical Concert on March 12th, the state competition for band and choir on March 15th, the Fine Arts Festival at Nashville High School on March 20th and kindergarten registration on March 24th.  Also, they will host the volleyball state championships at the end of the month at NCHS, as they have done for the last 7 years or so.  During closed session, the Board discussed and then dismissed custodian Jarrett Finke as of this morning.
