The West Washington County Community School District #10 had their monthly Board of Trustees meeting last Thursday night.  Superintendent Scott Furhop says they received a $500 donation from a group that used the facilities for a little league basketball tournament.  Board member Loyd Isringhaus will remain on the Kaskaskia Special Education District.  Furhop then talked about the District’s School Improvement Plan for the next school year, which was for both the grade school and high school and that includes team teaching, some special education items, as well as the 1 to 1 computer component and other technology for the future.  He says they have plenty to work out on much of that.  The Board approved the bid letting for grass cutting this year.  The Board also approved to have Board meetings begin at 8 o’clock during day light savings time, but it will change back later in the late fall.  The Board tabled discussion on school calendar changes, due to the anticipation of more days off, which they had on Monday.  They were originally scheduled off for Casimir Pulaski Day, but voted to have school that day to make up for a snow day, so they will amend the calendar at next meeting if needed.  Furhop says all of their fall sports, both golf teams and boys’ cross country teams were given IHSA Academic Certificates that meant that these teams average grade point averages was over 3.4, which is outstanding.  Utility bills have been high lately, so Furhop is working on that, saying that gas prices have not been the issued, surprising, considered they spiked, but he wants to look at ways to cut the electricity bill down.  Also, they will not renew the contract of Rachael Mayti, a 1st grade teacher, as she was hired due to the fact that they needed to split the class into 3 sections this year, but will not need to do so next school year.  She will finish out this year though.
