The Illinois High School Association Music program began its first stage of competition over the weekend.  High schools throughout the state met at various locations and had students in band and chorus perform solo and ensembles.  Nashville High School performed at Salem High School along with several other schools.  They do not compete against each other, but students get a 1 or 2 or 3 as their grade.  1s, which is superior, and 2s, which is excellent, have point values.  Nashville is currently ranked 9th in Class B with 270 points.  They received 37 ones and 18 twos.  They maxed out in some areas, so some of those didn’t record points.

Pinksterhaus piano

Senior Lindsey Pinksterhaus received a Best of Day for her piano performance.  Music Director Steve Browne said the day’s total is better than last year.  Other schools in Class B include Carlyle with 108 points, Pinckneyville with 57 points, while in Class A, Mount Vernon earned 135 points, Centralia 99 and Salem 66 points.  In Class D, Okawville received 48 points and Christ Our Rock Lutheran received 33 points.  The second stage of competition will be in April with the full bands and choirs performing.
