The United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced that 31-year old Mark A. Lewis, of Swansea, was sentenced in the federal district court in East Saint Louis on the charge of Theft of Unemployment Benefits from the United States Railroad Retirement Board and on the related violation of his conditions of supervised release.  The district court sentenced Lewis to a total of six months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.  The court also ordered Lewis to pay $1,995.37 in restitution to the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board and to pay a $100 special assessment.  From January 2013 through May 2013, Lewis fraudulently obtained monies belonging to the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board, an agency of the United States, by concealing his employment status in order to receive unemployment benefits.
