The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met last night and approved a tuition increase effective Summer 2014.  In-district tuition will be set at $105 a credit hour and mandatory fees will remain at $14 per credit hour for a total of $119, a change from the current $111 credit hour rate.  Out-of district tuition will be set at $198 per credit hour with mandatory fees at $14 per credit hour for a total of $212, an increase from $199.  Out-of-state and International student credit hour tuition will remain the same at $395 and mandatory fees at $14 per credit hour for a total of $409.  In order to reduce the tuition increase impact on those students registering for the greatest number of credit hours and, thus, experiencing the greatest financial burden, a one-half price tuition waiver will be granted for all credit hours greater than eighteen.  The online course fee will remain the same at $20 per credit hour, and the $5 per credit hour fee for web enhanced and distance learning course will remain unchanged.  These fees are essential in order to maintain state-of-the art technology and software to train students to be well prepared to enter the workforce or successfully transfer to a four-year institution.  The Board also approved a resolution in support of the Nashville-Washington County Enterprise Zone.   In personnel action, the Board accepted the retirement of Kathleen Bryan, Accounts Receivable Specialist and the resignations of Gary Hopper, Maintenance Specialist and Jon Boehning, Professor of Computer Information Technology.  The Board also approved the hire of Michelle Wessel as Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy Assistant Program.  The Board approved a new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associate in Arts Program.  The program, which compliments the existing H-VAC certificate, has been created on the recommendation of the H-VAC Advisory Board Council.  This degree was developed to help satisfy the rising demands for trained H-VAC technicians within the KC district.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for H-VAC mechanics and installers is projected to grow 21 percent from 2012-2022.  The salaries within the field are very attractive, which means annual earnings of nearly $43,640.  This new program will offer students the knowledge and skills needed for employment in the H-VAC industry as well as E.P.A. licensing to handle refrigerant disposal.  The Board approved Shores Builders of Centralia as the contractor for the new Nursing Education Center that will be constructed on the KC Main Campus and approved Stephens Flooring of Saint Louis for the flooring project for the Agricultural Education Center.  The Board approved General Waste Contractors as the contractor to provide asbestos abatement services for the H-VAC Fine Arts Project and approved Culbertson Cooling and Heating of Vandalia as the contractor for the H-VAC Fine Arts Project.  The Board also approved BLDD Architects to proceed with professional services for the design and authorization to proceed with construction documents and bidding process for the Science Lab Renovation Phase 5 or Physics Lab Capital Project.  The Board also approved the College Administration to proceed with construction documents and the bidding process for the renovation and expansion of the Crisp Technology Center.
